Winning 2nd team skipper Tim Wilkinson-Hall
Langley 1st XI made their first trip to Cheadle Hulme on Saturday and on a red hot day were well beaten by the home side.
Skipper Alex Berzins won the toss and elected to bat on a good firm wicket and Langley got off to a steady start, openers Chris Pattison and Zak Howdle took the score to 20 before Pattison 13 chipped to mid off.
This was the start of the usual Langley wobble as Neil Pennington 0 was bowled first ball and then Howdle 12 was bowled as Langley were reduced to 26-3. The classy John Scragg and Tommy Potts fought back both defending well. It was a real shame when Potts 4 ran out of patience and lofted a drive to mid off with the score on 63-4.
Adam Cartwright 1 soon followed when he was bowled leaving a straight ball. Matty Doggart 4 was another batsman who gave catching practice to mid off. Reaching three figures looked most unlikely as Langley struggled to 78-7.
Credit to Berzins who joined Scragg at the crease and batted very well refusing to let the young leg spinner settle and hit a rapid 22 until he was bowled by the returning pace man Akram.
Akram then proved much to quick for veteran Frame who was trapped LBW first ball. Callum Love and Scragg did rally adding 19 for the last wicket before Scragg 39 miscued and was caught in the covers as Langley were all out for 123 with Love 3no. Akram 4-37 was pick of the attack.
In reply Cartwright struck early when Ashraf 1 was superbly caught at point one handed by Love. This proved the only success as Cheadle Hulme romped to a 9 wicket victory. Akram 67no and Khalid 50no both batted very well.
Langley 2nd XI gained their first win of the season. They posted 191-4 youngster Tom Roberts top scoring with a fine 48, Steve Boon 43 and Tim Pattison 37no also contributed.
In reply Ashley Academy were bowled out for 130. Skipper Tim Wilkinson-Hall still beaming from his debut for the 1st XI last Thursday taking 4-26 backed up by Isaac Anderson 3-26.
